2009 Fly Fishing Course

The Southland Fly Fishing Club, held its annual (2 day) Fly Fishing course on 31st Jan & 1st Feb, the course being totally booked out more than a month in advance.

Day 1:
From 9am - 2pm, was spent in the classroom going over all aspects of fly fishing, then the afternoon was spent on the park practising casting.

Day 2:
Was on the river, in what could be described as a very windy day, I'm sure that is how some of the new comers would have described it, and under normal circumstances, may never have considered leaving home.

What they would have discovered, is that you can still fish on a very windy day, if you find the right spot.  The morning was very successful, seeing everyone quickly improve their fly casting technique, and at the same time catching three nice Mataura Brown Trout.

After lunch the group split into smaller groups with an experienced fly fishing buddy leading them, some groups were lucky enough to catch a couple of fish while others missed out due to the extremely windy conditions for anyone learning.
